ADNOC and e& to Deploy the Energy Sector’s Largest Private 5G Network to Power AI and Automation

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the state-owned oil giant of the United Arab Emirates, is the world’s 12th largest oil producer. As of 2021, ADNOC's production capacity exceeds 4 million barrels per day (bpd), with plans to reach 5 million bpd by 2030.

In a landmark move, ADNOC and e& have announced a strategic initiative to deploy the energy sector’s largest private 5G network, covering an expansive 11,000 square kilometres. This high-speed, high-bandwidth network will enhance connectivity across ADNOC’s onshore and offshore operations, enabling greater integration of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, automation-driven cost reductions, improved efficiency, lower emissions, and enhanced workforce safety. The project is set for completion in 2025 and is expected to generate $1.5 billion (AED 5.5 billion) in value over its first five years.

Once operational, the 5G network will transmit real-time data from sensors embedded in over 12,000 wells and pipelines to autonomous control rooms. This will facilitate predictive analytics and automated decision-making to extend asset lifespan and ensure operational safety. Additionally, the network will enable the full digitalization of wellheads, providing end-to-end visibility across ADNOC’s entire value chain and driving overall productivity.

e& is playing a key role in building ADNOC’s private 5G network, bringing its expertise in network infrastructure and AI-powered innovations to the energy sector. With connectivity as the backbone of digital transformation, e& aims to drive technological breakthroughs, set new industry standards, and accelerate progress across multiple sectors beyond this partnership.

This initiative aligns with ADNOC’s broader strategy to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company. With rising global demand for both energy and AI, ADNOC is investing in cutting-edge connectivity to ensure the delivery of secure, reliable, and responsible energy. By leveraging AI and automation, the company seeks to enhance decision-making from the control room to the boardroom, future-proof its operations, and uphold its commitment to safety and sustainability.
