Ambra Solutions has earned its place as a specialist in delivering private LTE and 5G networks for mission-critical industries. Since its launch in Canada in 2007, the company has combined radio-frequency and IP engineering expertise with ruggedised hardware and turnkey deployment kits. Its solutions are tailored for sectors that operate in remote or harsh environments, notably mining, ports, transport hubs and utilities.
Over the past five years, Ambra Solutions has rolled out networks in more than ten countries and covered over 900 kilometres of underground tunnels and open-pit sites. At the LaRonde gold mine in Quebec, engineers deployed the world’s deepest LTE network at 3.5 kilometres below the surface to support automation of ventilation, real-time tracking of personnel and machinery, and remote control of scoop trams and haul trucks. At Glencore’s Raglan nickel mine, a fully integrated private LTE system was installed and commissioned in just three days, linking the surface and the 1190 level on a single core packet-switching platform. In Labrador’s Tacora Scully iron-ore operation, Ambra replaced 45 Wi-Fi access points with 2 high-power LTE radios, extending reliable communications to both the pit and the nearby town of Wabush. A 2 kilometre ramp deployment at Vale’s Garson mine demonstrated uninterrupted video calls on moving vehicles, outclassing legacy Wi-Fi and leaky-feeder setups.
Key to Ambra’s offering is a global cooperation agreement with Ericsson. Together they have introduced 5G-ready radio systems that simplify network architecture and replace dozens of access points with a single base station. These radios support automation of critical systems, real-time vehicle and personnel tracking, remote machinery operation and large-scale Internet of Things sensor networks.
In January 2023 Nutrien, the world’s largest fertiliser producer, teamed up with Ambra Solutions and Ericsson to deploy the first underground private LTE network in the agribusiness sector. This project, now in its deployment phase, brings reliable voice and data communications to extensive subsurface areas. It underpins a connected-worker concept that enhances safety and efficiency through real-time monitoring and remote automation, setting a new standard for technology adoption in agribusiness and other remote industries.
Ambra Solutions maintains full ownership of the network stack, from radio-access deployment to local evolved-packet-core and quality-of-service frameworks. This end-to-end approach ensures consistent performance, rapid troubleshooting and the ability to meet stringent availability targets. All core components are software upgradable, making every site ready for emerging 5G features and large-scale IoT deployments.
As industries accelerate digital transformation, resilient connectivity is becoming the linchpin of safety and productivity. Ambra Solutions’ expertise in extreme environments, combined with its partnership with Ericsson and its mission-critical design philosophy, positions the company as a strategic ally for organisations adopting private LTE and 5G networks.
