Samsung and SK Telecom Bring Private 5G to Hana Financial Group's Smart Office

Cheongna, Incheon, in collaboration with SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics. Announced on 28 September 2026, the deployment is described as the first private 5G-based smart office in South Korea's financial sector.

The network covers 16 floors and is designed to support around 3,000 employees across ten affiliated companies. It allows staff to use 5G-enabled laptops, tablets and smartphones to access corporate systems securely without being tied to fixed desks or wired network connections.

Samsung supplied the complete private 5G infrastructure, including radios, baseband equipment and a cloud-native 5G Standalone (SA) Core. The network operates in the 4.7 GHz spectrum allocated for private 5G in South Korea.

An important feature is network slicing, which enables different Hana Financial Group subsidiaries to operate within separate logical network environments, each with its own security policies and operational requirements. Additional security measures include USIM-based authentication, encryption, firewalls and protection against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

The deployment is particularly interesting because financial institutions operate under strict security and network separation requirements, which can make conventional wireless office connectivity more challenging. Private 5G offers an alternative that combines mobility with controlled access to sensitive corporate systems.

While the project is also intended to provide a foundation for future AI-driven workplace applications, its immediate value lies in secure, flexible connectivity.

This is another interesting example of private 5G expanding beyond traditional industrial environments such as factories, ports and warehouses into sectors where security, mobility and operational flexibility are important considerations.
