In their 'Spotlight AsiaPacific September 2024' report, the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) has identified more than 50 equipment providers and over 66 telecom operators involved in deploying private mobile networks based on LTE or 5G worldwide. By May 2024, the GSA had tracked a total of 1,427 private mobile network deployments across 78 countries, with a notable concentration in North America, Europe, Asia, and a growing presence in Africa. While 439 of these deployments are publicly identified, the majority—988—remain anonymous, suggesting that 68% of these networks are not accessible through public records. This uptick in deployments highlights a global push toward private network solutions, particularly in sectors demanding high security and custom connectivity, such as manufacturing, education, and mining.
The Asia-Pacific region, particularly Australia, China, Japan, and South Korea, holds a significant share of these deployments, with 314 unique customer references, representing 22% of the global total. Manufacturing leads the charge in this region with 79 references, reflecting the area's strong industrial base, followed by the mining sector, driven largely by Australia's resource-rich landscape. In addition to manufacturing and mining, device testing and lab-as-a-service applications are notable in the region, with 23 references. Despite the region's large agricultural industry, however, agriculture has seen minimal private network adoption, with only two customer references noted by the GSA.
